Mom took Reece and I to Transfer Beach in Ladysmith B.C. today. Tomorrow is my big brother Reece's birthday. He's going to be 13! Mom says you're never to young to play in the water though.. so we did. There is more information about Transfer Beach at the bottom of this post.
Transfer Beach Park is centrally located on the waterfront of the community of Ladysmith, BC, Canada on Vancouver Island. The large park is a major gathering spot for summer activities and community events.
Some of the summer activities enjoyed at Transfer Beach include swimming, picnicking, sightseeing, birdwatching, frisbee, beach volleyball and kayaking. For children there is a playground and a water spray park to entertain. Down on the water is a sand box with climbing apparatus and a play boat.
In the middle of the park surrounded by grass lawns, beach blankets, picnic tables, trees and beached kayaks is a concession stand. Just up the hill from the food stand is a washroom and some change rooms. To the left, in the corner of the park is a picnic shelter for groups. And further left is an open amphitheater with benches for special events like logger sports and festivals.
There are many picnic tables in the park and on a sunshine day most will be is use. Some are hidden nicely under the shade of trees while others are out in the open under the glare of the sun. Because of the thick, soft grass lawns in the park many bring a beach blanket and enjoy the day from there on in.
Throughout the park are sitting benches, historic artifacts and some monuments. Some view the benches as birdwatching lookouts, as many sit for hours with binoculars in hand. Some of the birds in the area include Bald Eagles, Blue Herons and lots of seagulls.
How to Get to Transfer Beach Park
Travel to the community of Ladysmith, BC on Vancouver Island. As you approach the village from the south there is a large sign identifying Transfer beach on your right. Follow the short paved access road to a large parking lot.
